Every analogy breaks down somewhere. This one has plenty of holes and really falls apart at the point that our entire side yard had to be forfeited because we couldn't tell what was a weed and what was a plant and the shrubs seemed mangled beyond repair. Fortunately, God is a much better gardener than I am!
He never looks at the sin that entangles me and throws up his hands, claiming defeat. I am never beyond His mercy and His grace. I will never be so far gone that He can't transform me. I may want to surrender to the weeds, but He is always in control and he will continue to change me if continue to draw near to him.
Hebrews 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Be encouraged, this battle is not in vain. It can be frustrating to see the same weeds popping up over and over again, but don't lose heart. Every time we confess our sins, repent (turn away and change course), and believe in the gospel we're one step further in the journey toward holiness. When we lean on His power and continue to fight for holiness, we will find Him.

Hebrews 12:1 let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
1 Cor. 3:7 - So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
Rev 21:5 - And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new."
Gal 5:1 - It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened by a yoke of slavery.
